Anders is down to 2 liters of oxygen. He is also down to mid to high 20s O2 percentage (room air is 21%). He must stay at 2 liters through next Monday while he is getting his NO2 treatment. He needs to get off the NO2 and down to 1 liter before getting the elusive Southdale transfer. He continues to weigh 3 lbs 6 oz (yeah, it was actually that weight, not 3 lbs 4 oz. I'm not getting a Ph.D in Math...)
We will buy another weekly parking pass tomorrow. Hopefully that will be the last one.
Anders' new digs are at about the 10 pin of the bowling alley. The nurses take care of three babies instead of 2 babies. The nurses sit around holding babies and talking. The beeps of the machinery are on "concerned" rather than "freak out" mode. It is refreshingly quiet in there. One could probably read a book in there.
Unfortunately, we had another older nurse. She was like a bad waitress. You could get what you needed, but nothing extra and you had to bother her about everything. She didn't take Anders' onsie off for kangaroo care and she didn't get the cords in place correctly before she gave him to me. Only 30% of NICU nurses over the age of 48 rise above a basic level of competence. Give me a nurse under 30 and I know we will have a good hold with Anders. I can't wait until we can hold our son without worrying about the whims of a character from a Ken Kesey book!
They have mostly stopped the donor milk as a supplement. Now Anders gets Anna's milk along with calorie boosting formula. He will probably gain some weight between now and Monday since he is getting his breathing under control. I bet he will weigh over 3.5 lbs on Monday. He'll also get another dose of State Fair breast milk after Friday's visit for A Prairie Home Companion.
