The Minnesota Miracle

Anders might move Tuesday. He now weighs 3 lbs 9 oz. He has gained 3 oz in the last week, but 2 oz in the past 2 days. I think he has gained more weight now that his breathing is coming under control. Anders ends his NO2 treatments tonight at midnight and they concurrently lower his high flow to 1 liter of O2. I don't anticipate him having a problem with this change since his nasal cannula was routinely falling out today, but his O2 saturation remained high.
He also had a 14 gram bowel movement as I was holding him this afternoon. It smelled sort of like fish food. When I was a little kid, I used to have an aquarium of gold fish and the like. Feeding the fish smelled a lot like Anders today! It's interesting what memories having a child triggers. I hadn't thought about that aquarium in years. I should probably get off the topic of bowel movements should my mother-in-law read this entry. We (Anna, Greg, Mandy, Matt, me) were winding up for a spirited discussion of Anders' bowel movements before dinner last night, but she cut it off.
Anders was introduced to the teet today. He figured out the mechanics of the operation in short order, but still needs to round into form. He was quite alert for this entire process. Anders did not totally know what was happening. He thought about getting upset, but chose to make funny wide-eyed faces instead.
I thought Anders looked particularly like the baby pictures of Mandy at Greg and Dorene's house. His eyes seemed a bit rounder today, I guess they were just open wider.
They are ready to ween him from his isolette, but will not likely do so til Tuesday. It's about a four day process. I don't imagine Anders having much trouble being on the outside since his body temperature has been pretty consistently in the good range. Even when Anders was having all sorts of other problems, his body temp remained good.
We should know tomorrow more of the particulars of the transfer if he has another good night.
