One of the first conflicts in Anna's systematic nearly decade-long war on my bad musical taste was her reaction to my love of "Breathe" by Faith Hill.
I still love the song despite the constant chiding and now Anders does too since he too can "just breathe" on his own! They removed the nasal cannula and he has done well with it gone. Anders doesn't like stuff sticking into him. Now, all he has is the feeding tube going in his nose.
He now weighs a robust 5lbs 13oz. If he can go two more days without an apnea, then they will cut his caffeine cold turkey (hard for any Swede). Then after the three days it takes to get caffeine out of his system, he will have some sort of 12 hour body scan. If that goes well, then he can be released the next day. If all goes well, he could be out of the hospital in a week. If he has another apnea or fails the respiratory test, that means an additional week in the hospital.
I really hope it is next week since October is my favorite month in Athens. I hope to be home by the Meatfest on Saturday Oct. 17.
Also, I would like to stay a bit ahead of the crappy weather if possible. Early afternoon on Sunday, I was in a t-shirt, shorts, and sandals, but by late afternoon, long sleeves all around. Autumn literally blew in that afternoon and hit Anna with a small branch. Anna had gone to the chiropractor, Dr. Fishoil, a couple of days before for her neck. Then while walking by Lake Harriet, a medium sized branch pelted her on the neck! Welcome to her favorite season.
One thing that autumn does in the Upper Midwest that it doesn't do in SE Ohio is make you feel like you are catching a cold when the season changes. I got really worried earlier this week when I felt like I was getting sick for obvious reasons. Then I remembered that I used to feel like I was getting a cold EVERY fall when it turned cooler. I think that is part of the reason that Midwesterners are fatter than their Sunbelt brethren. People living in the north are literally sick for half the year, thus they cannot exercise.
Also, Anna and I think we might have been mildly food poisoned the night we went out for my mom's birthday at the Italian place at Southdale. Just when I was getting over that, I decided to clean up the donut box per Dan's request. I can't handle more than one donut at a time in my advancing age. In Junior High, I used to get three cream filled Long Jons for a dollar from Hart's Bakery before basketball practice and that didn't phase me. Not anymore.
In any case, as you can see from the pictures, Anders had a sleepy day on this rainy Thursday. He took 10 mils of food from the bottle during his 3 pm feeding. I would like to think that he picked up on the rainy day vibe outside, but since every day is like the last in the Southdale Special Care Nursery, I doubt that is the case.
